9 Reasons You Should Consider Starting A Podcast For Your Business

Have you been feeling the tug to start a podcast but aren’t sure if you really want to invest the time and energy into starting one?  Yes, podcasting is a huge investment of time and energy but it can really help give you and your business the edge you are looking for.  Today I am sharing 9 reasons why you should consider starting a podcast for your business.

Podcasting is really hot right now!  It seems like everyone is either hosting their own show or has been a guest on others.  So the question is, is having your own show just one of those things that experts say you need to have to be influential in your field or is there really something to this whole podcasting thing?

At the time of this blog, I have been podcasting for a year and half.  I can’t believe the time has flown so fast.  And in that time, I have recorded 182 episodes and my show has been downloaded over 12,000 times.  Those numbers amaze me every time I look at them.  I am sharing my stats with you because while they may not be huge numbers compared to other podcasters who have been doing this longer but to make a point.  The point is, you don’t have to have ginormous numbers for your podcast to make an impact on your business.

In the year and a half I have been podcasting, I have seen 9 things take place in my business as a result of podcasting…In no particular order, here they are:

Builds know, like, and trust with your audience

When you podcast on a regular and consistent basis and continue to show up for your audience they begin to know you a lot better than they can through the voice of your website or a static image on an instagram feed.  You have the unique opportunity to be in your audience’s ears and when your audience can hear your voice and respond to the inflection and tone of your voice, it is easier for them to have a deeper connection with you.  It almost feels like you are having a personal conversation with the person on the other end of the microphone.

Assuming that you listen to my podcast…you may have experienced the same thing with me!   If you have heard an episode or two in the past, you have gotten to know me and you react to my voice and you can tell how excited I get about something.

Chances are too that you have tried some of the tips and strategies I have shared in the past and you appreciate how they have helped you in your business so you tune in again and again to get more information from me

Because of all of those things you know me a lot better (I mean we’re almost besties right?),  hopefully like me, and I’ve earned your trust. When we know, like and trust people, we are more likely to purchase from them because more than likely the people we know, like, and trust are the people who will not take advantage of us.

Additional Income

One of my favorite things to do is create additional streams of income.  When you have multiple streams of income working for you at the same time, magical things happen!  With a podcast you have the opportunity to monetize it with sponsorships, commercials, and affiliate links.  All of these little opportunities add up and help you create and design the income you desire

Feature for products, services, eBooks or launches

Podcasts are a GREAT launching pads!  You have an audience right at your fingertips and you can share launch with your audience.  Here are some ideas that you can build on:

      • Excerpts from your latest eBook
      • Share your excitement about your newest product or the latest thing you’ve added to your service suite
      • You can get really creative with launches and share trials and info about it

Builds credibility

When you spend the time to create a compelling show title, work on an outline that flows, and deliver value through a show – you build not only credibility with your audience but you establish yourself as a thought leader and an expert in your field.  Be careful not to fall into the trap of regurgitating info from other people in your space – instead, carve a path for yourself and do something uniquely you – it will elevate you even higher

Creates a network

The people you meet through podcasting are incredible!  Here are some things you may experience:

  • You may meet and collab with other podcasters.
  • If you decide to have guests on your show, you never know who you will attract and how you can support each other.  It’s amazing how quickly all of these people become a part of your ever-growing network

New audience members

Your audience on all platforms will definitely grow as a result of hosting your own podcast or being a guest on someone else’s!  What’s even more amazing is the amount of people who find you through podcasting first instead of through mainstream channels like websites, landing pages, social media, etc.,

Improves public speaking

Once you begin podcasting and listening to yourself, your public speaking efforts improve.  You will begin to notice every filler word you have and how you stammer.  For that reason alone, I recommend editing your own podcast at first so you can improve your speech, inflection, and emotion

Connects you to your tribe

As I said earlier, you have the unique opportunity to be in your audience’s ears.  This opportunity builds a connection like no other.  Because it is your voice, your emotion, your expressions, your audience begins to really relate to you.  This builds a strong connection that I believe few mediums and create

Gives potential customers and clients insight into what it may be like to work with you

Since through podcasting you have the opportunity to really connect with your audience, build credibility, and gain trust with them, your audience can begin to imagine and gain insight into what it would be like to work with you.   At this point you aren’t such a stranger any more, making it easier for them to make the decision to work with you.
