7 Simple Solutions to Spooky Social Media Problems

Social media can be super spooky, especially when things aren’t going your way.  In this week’s blog post I am going to share with you 7 simple solutions to spooky social media problems you experience weekly, if not daily!

Let’s Dive In…

SPOOKY PROBLEM:  Your audience is eerily quiet!

SIMPLE SOLUTION:  You do all that you think you should be doing when it comes to posting on social media but you aren’t getting any responses…from anyone.  Here’s a trick that I use all the time to get the conversation started. Ask a question that relates back to your post that your audience can’t help but respond to.  Opinion based questions are a great way to get people talking in the comment section of your post.

Below are some example questions you can ask your audience:

  • How do you solve this problem?
  • Which tip above was your favorite?
  • Has this ever happened to you and what did you do?
  • What’s your favorite way of doing xyz?

You get the idea!  Open-ended opinion questions will help encourage activity in the comment section of your posts.

SPOOKY PROBLEM:  Your content is scary!

SIMPLE SOLUTION:   I am going to drop some tough love.  If you are constantly trying to sell on social media and you fail to educate, reward, inspire, relate to or entertain your audience, your content is downright spooky!

Take a step away from selling and start serving.  One of my favorite quotes from Zig Ziglar is “Stop selling and start helping!”

How can you help your audience today?  Here are some ideas:

  • Teach them how to best use your product or service
  • Show them an industry tip or hack
  • Make them laugh with an industry related meme (Google your industry plus + meme to get ideas)
  • Inspire, motivate or just make them feel good through a story or quote
  • Share how to overcome an obstacle

SPOOKY PROBLEM:  Your social media expectations are frightful!

SIMPLE SOLUTION:  Be realistic and understand how social media works.  Remember, social media is not about selling but all about making connections and building relationships.

If you are expecting to make sales just by simply posting a picture on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, insert favorite social media channel here, be prepared for a long road of disappointment.

Social media is about making connections and an impact on your audience.  If you can do that, you will make sales. It’s a longer runway to the end result of making a sale, but it is a very effective approach.

SPOOKY PROBLEM:  You’re terrified of video!

SIMPLE SOLUTION:  Practice. The more you do it, the more comfortable you will be.

My suggestion is to take baby steps when approaching video.  Consider starting out small before you go big. Here’s what I mean.  Focus more on the “story” feature of social media platforms. Stories are usually 10-15 second video clips.  You can do anything for 10-15 seconds…including video. Once you master stories and get used to seeing and hearing yourself on video, you can build up to Lives and pre-recorded video.  The key is to be consistent and set a goal date as when you are going to start recording longer-form video for your business.

SPOOKY PROBLEM: Your account is like a ghost-town.

Have you ever gone to your profile or analytics to see how many new followers you have gotten only to see that your account hasn’t grown at all?  In fact, in some cases, maybe you even lost a few followers.

SIMPLE SOLUTION:  Increase your follower count by putting some effort into it.

Follow and engage with a minimum of 10 target audience accounts per week.

Here’s how:

  • Identify 10 accounts that are your ideal customer
  • Follow the 10 accounts
  • Engage with their posts daily for a minimum of one week

SPOOKY PROBLEM:  Creepy Credibility!

SIMPLE SOLUTION:  One of the best ways you can explode your credibility is through free content that is HIGH in VALUE.  This works like a charm. Many times, my audience will refer me out for social media management opportunities.  Since I put a huge effort into providing free, quality content, my perspective clients can go to any social media platform I am active on and get a taste for how I produce and manage content.  It’s basically a live/real-time portfolio of my work and a great way for them to envision how I would work with their business or brand if given the opportunity.

SPOOKY PROBLEM:  You’re a ghost!

SIMPLE SOLUTION:  Don’t post and ghost.  Hang out on social media and then check back often to follow up on comments that end up on your posts.  Consider turning on post notifications on your phone so you never miss a comment.
