Instagram is hot, hot, hot! It is by far, the leading social platform when it comes to social engagement. The more engagement you and your brand gets, the Let’s get your Instagram bio POPPING! Today I am sharing with you 10 tips you need to crush your Instagram bio in 2019!
Let’s Do It!
Use a picture of yourself as a profile picture. Why? People connect with a person more than they do a logo. Remember, this is social media – humans like to be social with other humans. Here are some tips to selecting the best headshot for your bio:
- Make sure your headshot picture is big, clear, and well-lit
- Don’t hide your face behind sunglasses, pets, or in shadows
- Position yourself in front of a blank wall – preferably white so that your image pops
- Avoid busy backgrounds distracting the viewer from you
When selecting a username, choose something related to your business name, brand, industry, or niche (think targeted keywords).
Don’t get overly creative or clever when selecting a username. Your username should be something easy to remember, easy to spell, easy to pronounce and searchable.
When completing the “Name” section of your profile, keep in mind that this area is highly searchable. Again, think targeted keywords.
Use a combination of your name and the market, niche, or people you serve. For example, I help people master social media my name on Instagram is: LORA | Social Media Coach. Should someone search for a social media coach, my account will come up just because I mention “social media coach” in my name.
Craft a strong “I Help” statement clearly defining who you help and the services or product you offer. Be concise. You only have 150 characters to work with. At the time of this post, Instagram is rolling out a new profile format that doesn’t fully display the entire 150 characters. If you have this new rollout, play around with your “I help” statement to ensure the most important portion is visible.
Pro Tip: Use emojis to keep it interesting
Consider adding branded hashtags to your bio. Hashtags in your bio are clickable. If there is a specific hashtag you are using to highlight a certain product or service, put it in your bio to drive people to targeted content.
Do you manage more than one IG account for your brand (example: IG accounts for your podcast, blog, YouTube channel)? Consider including the @username for that page in your bio. @usernames are also clickable and can drive people to other IG real estate you own.
Add a call to action just before your clickable link, prompting profile visitors to connect with you further by getting a freebie, booking an appointment, listening to your podcast, or joining your Facebook group.
Use the connection options Instagram provides like email address and/or phone number. Remember, this is social media. Make it easy for people to get to know you!
Jazz up your name by using decorative fonts. Have you ever wondered how people get beautiful script, bold lettering, etc. in their bio? They do it through a site called LingoJam.
Make your one link count! Think this one through. You get the opportunity to share one link with the people who visit your profile page. Make it the juiciest, best link you can provide. Take the time to consider whether the homepage of your website is the best page to send them to – maybe you have a lead capture page that would serve both you and your new connection better.
Don’t skimp on your bio page. It is where people go to learn what you are all about. When people land on your Instagram profile, you want them to get a sense of who you are. Share your personality with them through the words you choose and the emojis you use. The more thought and life you put into your profile page, the more it will reward you. If you are struggling with how to build out your Instagram profile page, visit key accounts for inspiration. Accounts you should look at are:
- Social media accounts you love
- Those you consider to be your mentors
